Background Themes
Manage background theme images available in the Print Editor.
Background Themes let you organize and upload background images that customers can apply to product templates in the Print Editor. Each theme is a named group containing one or more images (JPG, PNG, SVG, PDF, PSD, and more). When a product template includes a background-image placeholder, customers can browse assigned theme groups and swap backgrounds while designing.
Themes support both raster and vector formats. SVG files can be flagged as seamless patterns, allowing the editor to tile them across the canvas. You can bulk-upload images via ZIP file, reorder themes and their images by drag-and-drop, and assign theme groups to individual products.
View Background Themes
- From your Unified Admin, go to Print Editor > Background Themes.
- The page displays all theme groups in either List view or Grid view, toggled via the tabs in the upper right.
- To search themes, use the search panel at the top right. The search filters by theme name and description.
- To add a new theme group, click the Add Theme button and fill in the Name and Description fields.
List View Columns
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Id | Unique theme group identifier. Rows can be dragged by this column to reorder themes. |
| Preview | Thumbnail of the first image in the theme group. |
| Name | Theme group name displayed to admins and in the editor. |

| Count | Number of background images in the theme group. |

Grid View Cards
In Grid view, each theme group displays as a card showing the theme name, a large preview image, and an image count. Use the three-dot overflow menu on each card for Edit, Items, and Delete actions. The Items action navigates to the theme images detail page.
Reorder Theme Groups
In List view, drag rows by the Id column to reorder theme groups. The display order is saved automatically and determines the order themes appear in the Print Editor.
Add/Edit Theme Group
- Click Add Theme to create a new group, or click Edit from the action menu on an existing theme.
- A dialog appears with the following fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Required. The display name for the theme group. Shown in the editor when customers browse backgrounds. |
| Description | Optional description for internal reference. |
- Click Save to create or update the theme group.

Theme Images Columns
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Id | Image identifier. Rows can be dragged to reorder images within the theme. |
| Preview | Thumbnail preview of the background image. |
| Display Order | Numeric sort position of the image within the theme group. |
| Seamless | Checkbox indicating whether the image should tile as a seamless pattern. Only enabled for SVG files. |
| Action | Menu with Delete and Download options. |
Upload Images
- Click the Add button in the theme images detail area.
- In the Add File dialog, select a file to upload.
- Supported file types: BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF, PDF, EPS, PS, SVG, AI, PSD, ZIP.
- Click Upload to save the file to the theme.
ZIP upload: Upload a ZIP file to bulk-add multiple images at once. The system extracts all supported image files from the archive. If a ZIP contains both an image file and a PDF with the same base filename, the PDF is stored as the high-resolution version for print output while the image serves as the on-screen preview.
Reorder Images
Drag rows by the Id column to reorder images within a theme. The display order determines the sequence customers see in the Print Editor.
Seamless Pattern Flag
The Seamless checkbox is only available for SVG files. When enabled, the Print Editor tiles the image as a repeating pattern across the background area. This flag is stored on the image record and can be toggled directly from the grid.
Delete Images
Click Delete from the action menu on any image row. A confirmation dialog appears before the image is permanently removed from the theme.
Click Download from the action menu to download the original source file for any background image.
Delete Theme Group
- From the action menu on any theme row or card, click Delete.
- A confirmation dialog appears: "Are you sure you want to delete?"
- Confirming deletes the theme group, all its image associations, and all product-to-theme assignments. The underlying image files are not deleted from storage.
