Wall Art
Set up canvas, prints, mats and frames as 3D Auto products that preview in true 3D in the Print Editor and storefront.
Wall art products, such as canvas and prints with mats and frames, preview as a real 3D piece. The customer sees it in the Print Editor's live preview panel and in the proof step. The piece is lit by the store's 3D Environment and built from 3D Materials.
Set Up a Wall Art Product
- In 3D Materials, create the Stock, Mat and Frame materials. Fill in each material's Wall art section (sizes, print method, edge mode, frame width, overhang, recess).
- In Pricing, add a Stock Material order option. Add Mat Material and Frame Material options if the product offers them.
- Set each option's Integration Id to its role, for example
stock_layer:1,mat_layer:1orframe_layer:1. - On each option item, pick its material in Appearance material (3D preview).
- Edit the product. On the Print Editor tab, set Preview Type to 3D Auto. See Preview Type.
- Click Save, then open the product on the storefront to check the preview.
3D Auto needs the 3D model viewer license feature. A 3D Auto product has no 3D Model field: it builds its own shape from the design and the calculator.
What the Customer Sees
The preview draws the printed stock with its thickness, up to three mats, and one frame with mitered corners. Everything comes from the customer's calculator choices and the linked 3D Materials.
| Part | How it shows |
|---|---|
| Edges | Follow the stock's Edge mode: Normal (the stock's edge look), Colored (the edge color), Wrap (the art continues around the edge from the bleed, like gallery-wrapped canvas) or Mirror (the art is mirrored onto the edge). Wrap and Mirror apply only with no mat and no frame. |
| Print method | Direct prints the art onto the stock's own texture, for example on wood. Standard prints it opaque. |
| Acrylic | An acrylic stock shows a clear face over the print, with clear edges. Mats are not drawn on acrylic. |
| Two-sided pieces | Show the second page on the back, unless there is a mat or frame. |
| No options set up | A 3D Auto product with no wall art options shows a plain stock in the look of the 3D Material on its stock option. With no material linked, it is white and 3/200 inch thick. |
Turning and Zooming
- Drag to turn the piece. One-sided pieces turn up to 60° each way. Two-sided pieces turn all the way around horizontally.
- Mouse wheel, pinch or the zoom buttons zoom between half and double size.
- The piece opens turned 20° so its depth shows. Auto-rotate is always off for wall art.
Live Updates
- Changing a calculator option rebuilds the piece at once.
- Design edits update the print.
- A new custom size, undo and redo all update the preview.
- The first draw waits up to 4 seconds for the calculator choices and the store lighting, so the customer does not see a plain slab change into the real piece.
Calculator Swatches
Calculator swatches for wall art items show the material's real color or texture from its 3D Material.
Saved Choices
Wall art choices are saved with the customer's product. Reopening it from the cart restores them. If the customer changes options on the cart page and then edits again, the new choices carry over.
