Configure sitemaps, robots.txt, and URL redirects for your PrintNow store
Sitemap
PrintNow automatically generates a sitemap.xml file that contains links to all your products, pages, categories, and blog posts. This is used by search engines like Google and Bing to index your site so that your store's pages appear in search results. Submitting your sitemap to Google Search Console helps Google find and index valuable pages on your site.
The process of crawling and indexing your site can take time, and Google doesn't guarantee how long it'll take. Learn more about what to expect when your site is indexed from the Google Search Console Help.
Find your sitemap
The sitemap file is automatically generated and links to your products, categories, blogs, tags, and pages. It's automatically updated when you add a new page, product, category, or blog post to your PrintNow online store. From your Unified admin, go to Print Store > Settings > Domain Tools > Sitemap.
To view your sitemap type "/sitemap.xml" after the root domain. For example: yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
Tip: You can override the auto-generated sitemap by placing your own sitemap.xml file at the root level of your PrintNow theme.
Robots.txt
Search engines like Google constantly crawl the internet in search of new data. When your site is being crawled, your store's robots.txt file blocks page content that might otherwise reduce the effectiveness of your SEO strategy by stealing PageRank.
- From your Unified admin, go to Print Store > Domain Tools > Robots.txt.
- Click +Add Robot button and enter your path to block. Example:
/testing - Click Save.
Redirects
URL Redirect (also referred to as URL Forwarding) is a technique which is used to redirect your domain's visitors to a different URL. You can forward your pages to any website, webpage, etc. which is available online.
Redirects use status codes defined within the HTTP protocol. Based on this, URL forwarding may be of the following types: 301 (permanent), 307 (temporary) URL Redirects.
PrintNow automatically adds redirects when you change paths on existing pages. Otherwise pages indexed on Google for instance would result in a page not found.
- From your Unified admin, go to Print Store > Settings > Domain Tools > Redirects.
- Select Permanent (301) or Temporary (307) for your Print Store.
- In most cases enable "Force lower case for all urls" for SEO.
- To add a new redirect click +Add Redirect and enter paths From and To. Click Save.
- To list redirect history for a given item click the Actions Icon and Follow.
- To edit a redirect click the Actions Icon and Edit.
- To delete redirect history for a given item click the Actions Icon and Delete.
